"The name Moab is a Biblical name for a land just short of the Promised Land...the region was a green, verdant valley in the middle of a serious desert; an emerald in the sand."
Presuming that I will have arrived "just short of the Promised Land" on this seventh day of my sojourn, and I'm not still stuck in Hanksville, which is "well short of the Promised Land", I will explore the sights that prompted the early Mormon settlers to bestow the aforementioned moniker upon this area.

Kidding about names aside, the Moab area is indeed rich in natural wonders.  The local attractions include Arches National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, and of course, Canyonlands National Park.  The Canyonlands consist of three distinct and disconnected areas, separated by the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers.  The Island in the Sky is the most visited of the three; The Needles area lies further south, off of Highway 191; and The Maze remains the most remote and least visited of the Canyonlands--more accessable by boat or 4WD vehicle.  I will ride the two more obvious sections -- the Maze will have to wait for another day.
