Today we leave the Alpine beauty of Colorado's San Juan Mountains for the more desolate beauty of the Canyonlands of Southeast Utah.  The Ride begins with a pilgrimage to the Four Corners:

Near the point at which Highway U.S. 160 crosses the San Juan River there is a sign that will direct you a quarter mile or so to an official monument.  It is a large slab of concrete on the top of which are implanted the official seals of four states: Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona.  The monument marks the point at which the corners of the four states intersect.  It is the only place in the United States where this happens.   This is the Four Corners.

After an appropriate brief ceremony to mark the occasion, the Ride continues.  I originally planned to travel up the Bicentennial Highway (95) from Natural Bridges National Monument to Hanksville, but I am considering a detour to Glen Canyon Natl. Recreation Area that would add at least 50 miles and two hours to this leg of the trip.  I would take the John Atlantic Burr Ferry across Lake Powell at Hall's Crossing  This would require turning left onto Highway 276 instead of continuing on Highway 95 to Hite.   It would also require good timing, as Hall's Crossing ferry leaves on even numbered hours from 8:00am to 6:00pm.
